On May 21, 2014, the author gave a commencement speech at the University of Texas, his alma mater.  This book is based on that speech.

The author learned many lessons while attending Navy SEAL training. Those lessons have been condensed into 10 points that can help change your life and as the author states, and may change the world.

  1. Start Your Day With a Task Completed (Make your bed)

Nothing can replace the strength and comfort of one’s faith, but sometimes the simple act of making your bed can give you the lift you need to start your day and provide you the satisfaction to end it right.”

10. Never, Ever Quit! (Don’t ever, ever ring the bell)

If you fill your days with pity, sorrowful for the way you have been treated, bemoaning your lot in life, blaming your circumstances on someone or something else, then life will be long and hard.”

The book is full of memorable characters.

Ranger Adam Bates had his legs blown off and he was badly injured in the hospital.  He signed to the author, who was at a loss of words, and said “I will be ok.”

SEAL team member Tommy Norris won the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War even though he was small and was almost kicked out of SEAL training.

Law Enforcement Application

Although starting a career is law enforcement doesn’t require the sacrifices and hardships that must be endured to become a Navy SEAL, there are many lessons in this book for law enforcement leaders.

If we as law enforcement leaders apply the 10 principles in the book to how we lead and how we serve, there is no doubt we will be better leaders and our organizations will accomplish its goals.

This inspirational book will equip law enforcement leaders and officers with the tools necessary to carry out the difficult duties that must be done each and every day.

Law enforcement officers frequently encounter people in crisis.  In many cases, these people are going through the worst situation they have ever had to deal with.

How can they be served if the officers are not physically and mentally prepared to help them?

This book will help get you mentally prepared for the job and for life.  Who knows, maybe these little changes can change the world.

The physical preparation is up to you.

I have included the video of Admiral William H. McRaven’s speech below.
