7 Apps to Help You Be More Productive as a Leader in 2019

It is hard to believe that 2019 is here.  Time seems to slip by so quickly.  I recently celebrated my 10th anniversary as the police chief of the Dunwoody Police Department.  It seems like I only started here yesterday! A new year brings with it an opportunity to look back at the previous year and think about how you can improve as a leader in the coming year and set new goals for the year. I don’t know about you, but I am always searching for new applications and/or technology that can help me be more organized, efficient or that will equip me to be a better leader. I thought I would share some of my favorite apps and tell you why I like them. Let’s get started. 1. One Word Can Change Your Life in 2019

At this time of year, we naturally start thinking about how the current year went and begin making plans for the new one. New Year’s resolutions are usually part of the planning process for the new year. Unfortunately, most of us break our new year’s resolutions almost before they begin.  Of course, some people keep at it for a few months.  But most of us do not.  According to US News, 80% of new year’s resolutions fail by the second week of February.  Some studies suggest that only 8% of new year’s resolutions are kept. I don’t want to give you the impression that I am anti-new year’s resolution.  I’m not totally against making them, but I do believe they can be ineffective and even a demotivator in many cases when we fail to keep them. A limited number of resolutions with a strong commitment to each of them is needed. For those of you willing to try something different, I have a suggestion. What if I told you about a way to change your life for the better in 2019 and even reach some of your goals? Would you be interested? Great!  Let me explain. Alternative A few years…

Leading With a Vision

Earlier this year, the well-respected Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Atlanta office, David LeValley, passed away due to complications from his response to the World Trade Center on 9/11. Dave was a quiet leader who believed in partnerships.  He will be missed.  Dave will also be hard to replace. At a recent Atlanta Joint Terrorism Task Force Executive Board meeting, I had the opportunity to meet the Acting SAC, Chris Hacker.  Chris is a genuinely nice guy who had most recently been the Acting Assistant Director of CID in Washington. Fortunately for us, Chris was named as the Special Agent in Charge for Atlanta.  I could tell Chris was the right person for the job. Chris recently spoke at the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police District 11 meeting.  He could have given a generic FBI talk.  I have heard quite a few of them over the years. Instead, Chris shared his personal story and his vision for his office. I’m glad I was there to hear it. His Story Chris grew up in Kentucky, and as a child, he dreamed of being an FBI Agent.  After high school, he attended Eastern Kentucky State University where he graduated…
